Dear Sister & Brother Evacuees of Katrina: Our heartfelt thoughts are with you. An opportunity to continue your education

Dear sister and brothers, evacuee neighbors of Hurricane Katrina:

The doors and arms of the World of Opportunity (WOO) are open to Katrina evacuees who would like to study for the GED exam, or high school-aged youth who would like to continue their studies until they can enroll at their new high school.

Also, we offer computer operations, computer repair, AutoCAD (computerized drafting), CNA (certified nurse aide) health care training, Spanish, and we will do our best to help with job leads

In addition, we offer counseling or referrals for substance abuse, medical problems, shelter, food, clothing, women's issues, conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and more. We are here to listen to your needs and concerns and will stick with you until we can reach some resolution so that you find some peace of mind.

Most of all, we offer our heartfelt thoughts, our modest facility, and a serving of hot chicken noodle soup to assist Katrina evacuees get back on their feet.

Prior to the evacuee crisis, our program was already crowded. We don't have much, but we're willing to share half of that with you. All we ask is that you be patient with us as we learn to absorb our new friends and neighbors into our program.

We are located at 7501 Georgia Road, in the heart of Gate City on the east side of town. The #17 bus line stops right in front of our building.

Our GED preparation sessions are:
Monday - Friday morning, 10:00 AM - noon
Monday - Thursday afternoon, noon - 2:00 PM
Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday evening, 6:00 - 8:00 PM (3 evenings only)

No paperwork is required to enroll in our program. Just bring your commitment to continue your education, and a smile. We will attempt to provide smiles to those who do not presently possess one.
