Compassion & Community Service
The WOO will provide
a GED exam fee scholarship($40.00) for those students who:
- score an average of 490 on
the Official Half-Length GED Exam, administered at the WOO. This will be reevaluated on a
student-by-student basis. (As our funds permit, the WOO will reimburse students for the exam
fee if they pass the GED, provided they also complete the community service guidelines
below.);
- participate in 8-12 hours of community service;
- register to vote, if eligible;
- complete a library card application, if eligible.
WOO students and staff are encouraged to give back to our community by participating in a
number of community service projects:
...peer tutoring students at the WOO;
...recruit students to continue their education at the WOO;
...maintaining, cleaning, and organizing the WOO facility;
...assist with tutoring at Gate City Elementary School;
...helping out at the Salesian Ministries Food Pantry;
...mentoring at the Salesian's after school and/or summer youth Oratory.
At the WOO, we are confident that each
student has abilities and talents to help build and sustain our community and repair the
world.
