Ronald James Payne was the son of our esteemed computer student and Board
member, Ms. Mattye Grant, and Ronald was a graduate of Miles College.
-
Virgil Ware Memorial Scholarship - direct assistance to address the needs
listed above, especially for transportation assistance.
Virgil Ware was one of the six children who were killed by the Ku Klux Klan
in Birmingham on September 15, 1963. Virgil was shot by white supremacists as
he sat on the handle bars of his brother's bicycle on Old Docena Road.
-
DeMarcus "Marco" Daniel Memorial Scholarship - direct assistance to address
the needs listed above, especially for students with vision problems.
Demarcus "Marco" Daniels was our beloved GED student who was shot by a
convenience store clerk in North Birmingham on November 22, 2003. Marco was a joy
to have in our program; having advanced one full level in adult education. He
struggled with his studies because of vision disabilities.
-
Restorative Justice & Community Service Project - direct assistance to address
the needs listed above, especially for students who are embroiled in the criminal justice system.
The Restorative Justice & Community Service Project was established to assist students with court fines, probation, and drug screen costs to keep their payments current so that they do not accumulate additional fines and fees. As is possible, in consideration for community service at the WOO, partial payments are made directly to TASC (Treatment Alternative to Street Crime), or the respective court, to be applied towards a student's account.
